Standards
1.1 This section describes the field centrifuge method for determining both water and sediment or sediment only in crude oil. This method may not always produce the most accurate results, but it is considered the most practical method for field determination of water and sediment. This method may also be used for field determination of sediment. When a higher degree of accuracy is required, the laboratory procedure described in API MPMS Ch. 10.3, Standard Test Method for Water and Sediment in Crude Oil by the Centrifuge Method (Laboratory Procedure) (ASTM D4007); API MPMS Ch. 10.2, Standard Test Method for Water in Crude Oil by Distillation (ASTM D4006); or API MPMS Ch. 10.9, Standard Test Method for Water in Crude Oils by Coulometric Karl Fischer Titration (ASTM D4928); and the procedure described in API MPMS Ch. 10.1, Standard Test Method for Sediment in Crude Oils and Fuel Oils by the Extraction Method (ASTM D473) or API MPMS Ch. 10.8, Standard Test Method for Sediment in Crude Oil by Membrane Filtration (ASTM D4807) should be used.
1.2 The requirements of this standard may involve hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. This standard does not purport to address all of the safety problems associated with its use. The user of this standard has the responsibility for establishing appropriate safety and health practices and determining the applicability of regulatory limitations prior to use.

As this Standard will be applied to a variety of applications the output parameters specified in this Standard (ρ, ρ₆₀, ρT, CTL, CPL, and CTPL) may be used as specified in other API Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards (MPMS) Chapters. This Standard provides general procedures for the conversion of input data to generate ρ, ρ , ρ , CTL, FpFs, CPL, and CTPL values at the user specified base temperature and pressure (Tb, Pb).

This document provides standardized calculation methods for the quantification of liquids and the determination of base prover volumes under defined conditions, regardless of the point of origin or destination or the units of measure required by governmental customs or statute. The criteria contained in this document allow different entities using various computer languages on different computer hardware (or manual calculations) to arrive at identical results using the same standardized input data. The publication rigorously specifies the equations for computing correction factors, rules for rounding, calculational sequence, and discrimination levels to be employed in the calculations. No deviations from these specifications are permitted since the intent of this document is to serve as a rigorous standard.

This standard provides a single reference for engineering equations, uncertainty estimations, construction and installation requirements, and standardized implementation recommendations for the calculation of flow rate through concentric, square-edged, flange-tapped orifice meters. Both U.S. customary (USC), and international system of units
(SI) units are included.

This standard covers all the procedures required to determine the field data necessary to calculate a Base Prover Volume (BPV), of either Displacement Provers or Volumetric Tank Provers, by the Waterdraw Method of Calibration.
It will enable the user to perform all the activities necessary to prepare the prover, conduct calibration runs, and record all the required data necessary to calculate the base volumes of displacement and tank provers. Evaluation of the results and troubleshooting of many calibration problems are also discussed.
Detailed calculation procedures are not included in this standard. For complete details the of calculations applicable to this standard, refer to the latest edition of the API Manual of Petroleum Measurement Standards, Chapter 12, Section 2, Part 4, “Calculation of Prover Volumes by the Waterdraw Method.”

This specification establishes the minimum quality management system requirements for organizations that manufacture products or provide manufacturing-related processes under a product specification for use in the petroleum and natural gas industry.
This specification specifies the requirements of a quality management system for an organization to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide reliable products and manufacturing-related processes that meet customer and legal requirements.
If an organization performs activities addressed by this specification, no claims to exclusion of those activities are permitted. Where any requirement of this specification cannot be applied due to the nature of an organization, the requirement can be considered for exclusion. Where exclusions are made, the basis for claiming exclusions is to be identified. Furthermore, such exclusions cannot affect the organization's ability, or responsibility, to provide products and related servicing that meet customer and
applicable regulatory requirements. Exclusions are limited to the following sections:
⎯ 5.4, Design and Development;
⎯ 5.7.1.2, Servicing;
⎯ 5.7.1.5, Validation of Processes for Production and Servicing;
⎯ 5.7.5, Customer-supplied Property;
⎯ 5.8, Control of Testing, Measuring, and Monitoring Equipment.
The quality management system requirements specified in this specification are in alignment with the section requirements and format of document used for the provision of services and use of service related product (API Q2). Information marked “NOTE” are not requirements but are provided for guidance in understanding or clarifying the associated requirement.

1 Scope
1.1 Application
This document defines the quality management system requirements for service supply organizations for the petroleum, and natural gas industries. It is intended to apply to the execution of upstream services during exploration, development and production in the oil and gas industry. This includes activities involved in oil and gas well
construction, intervention, production, and abandonment. This document applies to activities associated with well servicing, equipment repair/maintenance, and inspection activities.
This document specifies requirements of a quality management system for an organization to demonstrate its ability to consistently provide services that meet customer, legal, and other applicable requirements.
This document was developed by a group of upstream technical experts. While this document and/or portions thereof could be applicable to other industry segments, it is recommended that other segments carefully review these requirements to determine their applicability and if necessary develop a segment annex identifying any segment specific requirements.
