 This standard specifies the minimum requirements for VHF transmitters and receivers fitted with a 50 Ω external antenna socket or connector for use on board ships and operating in the bands between 156 and 174 MHz allocated to the maritime mobile service by the International Telecommunications Union Radio Regulations (Radio Regulations, Appendices 18 and 19).

These devices are covered by the requirements in the Standard for Metallic Outlet Boxes, UL 514A, or in the Standard for Nonmetallic Outlet Boxes, Flush-Mounted Boxes, and Covers, UL 514C.
