1 Scope
1.1 This standard outlines a code of safety for chemical laboratories.
1.2 The standard outlines:
(a) general rules of conduct concerning safety;
(b) details for fire emergency and rescue procedures;
(c) general laboratory techniques.
1.3 This standard does not cover hazards relating to radioactive substances.
This standard specifies requirements for the labelling of household chemicals sold in Guyana, whether locally made or imported, and gives a series of warning labels corresponding to the designated classes of dangerous goods as detailed in Appendix A. This standard shall be read in conjunction with GYS 9-1 :1994, “Specification for labelling of commodities - Part 1: General principles”.

This standard specifies
attachment fused and unfused plugs (caps), shuttered receptacles (sockets) for
flush surface mounting. These plugs and sockets are suitable for alternating
current circuits only of voltages not exceeding 250 volts and currents not
exceeding 15 amperes. The plugs and
receptacles covered by this standard are intended for use in making readily detachable
electrical connections in non-hazardous locations between supply circuits and
portable lamps, appliances and similar equipment.
